On Monday morning, the city witnessed heavy showers from Mahim to Elphinstone Road, with the suburbs fluctuating between light and heavy showers in the morning. “Traffic is moving slow at Khar subway, Malad subway & Andheri subway due to water logging,” Mumbai police tweeted. At around noon, the cops tweeted that both Khar and Milan subway had been opened once again, but cautioned that traffic was moving slowly.

Leo Burnett CEO Prashanth Challapalli shared a post on Facebook on the dire situation at Khar subway. “Khar Subway is a death trap! My cab got stuck in the middle of the tunnel and water rose above the seat in less than 30 seconds. The engine cut off and the cab started floating. There is a huge amount of water that rushes in from the train tracks above. Had to open the door, stretch out to the railing on the side, vault over it and run as fast as I could to avoid the rising water level inside the tunnel. Combined with the crumbling walls of the tunnel, I wonder how long before it collapses and crushes people to death. No matter how long it takes to detour, please don’t take the subway when it rains like this. Actually don’t take the subway at all,” he wrote.

Traffic has also been reported moving slow from areas such as Chembur, which has witnessed an increase in rains. A container broke down in Vikhroli, which has resulted in slow movement of traffic. Meanwhile, A compound wall of an under construction building has collapsed in Lloyds Estate, Near Vidyalankar College, Wadala. The incident took place around 4.30am. In the incident, the road of the compound has also caved in and at least 7 to 8 vehicles are stuck in those debris. 4 fire engines are on the spot to remove the vehicles, but due to rains the road is caving in more and we are facing difficulties in managing the situation. However nobody was injured in the mishap, an officer from fire brigade control room said.

Traffic diversions have been reported from the following areas due to heavy rains, The Indian Express reported.

1)  Road No 24, Sion

2) King’s Circle

3) National College, Bandra

4) Siddharth Hospital, Goregaon

5) Chembur Phatak

6)Pratiksha Nagar, Sion

DNA lensman Hemant Padalkar also managed to capture a video of the traffic in King’s Circle that was caused due to water logging
